The Big Apple Run 2011 Blog
Keep up to date with progress by following the The Big Apple Run 2011 Blog.
Big Apple BlogMonths of the hardest physical effort Jude and Karen have ever undertaken paid off when they both finished the New York Marathon on 6th November. Karen finished in 4 h 15 mins and Jude in 4 h 50 mins (this included a 7 minute toilet stop!!) The pair started out at Staten Island to the sounds of "New York New York" and were cheered on by a very enthusiastic crowd all the way to the finish line.
What’s The Challenge?
The New York City Marathon, all 26 miles and 385 yards of it (or 42.195km if you want to think metric), runs through the streets of New York's five boroughs: Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx, and Manhattan. The course challenges thousands of athletes every year and is a model for big-city marathon courses around the world. It’s watched by 315 million TV viewers (no pressure!) and on 6th November 2011 Judith Thorpe and Karen Molloy ran the distance - a marathon first for them both.

Why Support Dreams Come True?
Dreams Come True is a children’s charity which “does as it says on the tin” making dreams come true for seriously and terminally ill children across the UK. Each dream is unique which means the charity arranges unforgettable experiences, which fulfil dreams and create memories for loved ones to share, as well as vital equipment needed for day to day activities. All Dream Children are very brave, often enduring painful and frightening treatments. By fulfilling a dream, the work of Dreams Come True empowers the children and the families, helping them to cope with incredibly sad and overwhelming circumstances.
