Experienced Mechanical Engineer required on a permanent staff basis within an Oil and Gas company based in Aberdeen.

Working within an R&D focused department, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design and development of new and existing surface and downhole tools.  The Mechanical Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Designing mechanical components and systems.
  • Carrying out stress analysis calculations.
  • Generating CAD models and drawings.
  • Generating engineering documentation (procedures, reports etc.).
  • Checking engineering documents.
  • Performing test build and prototype testing of new equipment.
  • Advising on ordering of equipment for new tools and development work.
  • Participating in design reviews.
  • Supporting internal and external customers on technical queries.
  • Maintaining design files and related documentation.
  • Supporting operations by working at client sites, which could be both onshore and offshore.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a relevant degree is essential.
  • Extensive office-based engineering experience with the design and development of downhole tools is essential.
  • With it being an R&D focused role, prior experience of designing new tools would be highly desirable.
  • Experience with CAD applications is essential and specific experience with Autodesk Inventor and Vault would be highly desirable.
  • Experience with stress analysis calculations is essential.
  • Metals and elastomers experience is essential.
  • MathCAD experience would be advantageous.
  • This role would suit an innovative and creative individual who is passionate about engineering and who is capable of designing new tools within a workshop / manufacturing environment.
