Currently recruiting for a Network Administrator on a permanent staff basis for an Oil and Gas client based in Aberdeen.

This role is part of a 5 year supported development / training programme, whereby the successful candidate will develop into a fully qualified Cisco Network Engineer.  Throughout the training programme, the successful candidate will be put through a variety of network engineering qualifications, which include CCNA and CCNP qualifications. 

As part of the programme, the individual will assist in the installation, configuration and on-going support of Local Area Network (LAN), Wireless LAN (WLAN), Wide Area Network (WAN) and Perimeter Security infrastructure in operation across the company. 

Reporting to the Network and Security Architect, the Network Administrator will sit within the IS Department and will provide technical support and assistance for the network and security infrastructure across the organisation.

The Network Administrator will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing assistance in the installation, configuration, deployment, maintenance and management of the LAN, WLAN, WAN and Perimeter Security infrastructure.
  • Administration of the Next Generation Firewall estate – URL / Application filtering, IPS, Anti-Virus and VPN.
  • Continuous learning and development on all networking and security related technologies.
  • Mitigating identified threats and vulnerabilities in order to maintain the integrity, confidentiality and availability of data and devices.
  • Maintaining consistency of device hardware, configurations, profiles, standards and naming conventions.
  • Ensuring ongoing proactive monitoring, logging, fault resolution, system upgrades, administration and maintenance, security, IOS patching, backup management / system recovery of the infrastructure.
  • Producing system performance / capacity statistics, diagnostic information, as well as site “as built” documentation for the supported infrastructure.
  • Providing assistance with the planning, coordination and delivery of identified projects.
  • Adhering to the IS Change Management process.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • An HND or Degree qualification in an IT discipline would be highly desirable.
  • Applicants will ideally possess professional technical accreditations from relevant industry bodies.
  • Previous experience of working in IT, with exposure to some networking technologies, is essential.
  • Previous hands-on experience with Cisco networking hardware would be highly desirable.
  • Applicants must have a genuine interest in network engineering and must be keen on pursuing a career within this field.
  • The successful candidate will be fully supported by the company but he or she must be prepared to learn on the job and undergo a variety of courses in order to obtain the necessary qualifications within the five year timescale.
  • This role would suit someone who is in the early stages of their IT career who has a keen interest in pursuing a career within network engineering.
