Currently recruiting for an experienced Business Intelligence Analyst on a six month, fixed-term contract basis for a client based in Aberdeen. The client is ideally looking to have someone in post at the start of January, therefore leading to an anticipated contract end of 31st July 2018.

The client has recently purchased Tableau data visualisation software and the Alteryx ETL tool.   Implementation of this new system will take place across a range of internal and external data sources to enable more sophisticated data analysis to support strategic and operational decision-making.  As such, an opportunity has arisen to for an experienced Analyst to join the Business Intelligence team.  Reporting to the Business Implementation Manager and through working as part of a small team, the Business Intelligence Analyst will be responsible for linking with Tableau the range of the organisation’s databases located across a range of departments.  The Business Intelligence Analyst will have the following main duties / responsibilities:

  • To support the Business Intelligence Implementation Manager in securing the change in the institution’s approach to and use of data analysis.
  • To link a range of internal and external data sources to Tableau and to create, where relevant, meaningful joins between different data sources.
  • To create specific reports and dashboards using multiple data sources (internal and / or external) and present this to consumers to support informed decision making.
  • To utilise Alteryx to undertake complex data transformations and predicative analysis on data sources.
  • To develop reports and presentations to the BI Project Board as directed by the Manager.
  • To keep up to date with developments in data utilisation and data visualisation so that good practice can be incorporated into the roll out of Tableau across the organisation.
  • To conduct a range of Tableau training for authors and consumers.
  • To act as a reference source for queries and troubleshooting with regard to the use of the Tableau and Alteryx tools.
  • To work with ITS staff to ensure integrated operational planning and delivery across the whole project.

Qualifications:

  • An Undergraduate Degree qualification in a relevant subject area, or an equivalent level of work experience, is essential.
  • A further qualification in a relevant subject area is desirable.

Experience:

  • Previous experience with an existing business intelligence system is essential.
  • Good working knowledge of ETL processes is essential.
  • An understanding of data protection and its application to statistical reporting is essential.
  • Previous and extensive experience of authoring reports in Tableau and / or using Alteryx for data analytics is desirable.
  • Experience in developing effective data visualisations is desirable.
  • Experience of managing a significant institutional or organisational database is desirable.
  • Experience with relational databases, SQL and dimensional modelling is desirable.
  • Considerable experience with Tableau and / or Alteryx is desirable.
