Bosses get new chance to learn from others
A new networking group for leading business people held its first Aberdeen meeting last night.
Around 50 people attended the launch of We-Entrepreneurs, where the speaker was the boss of Aberdeen energy services giant Wood Group.
Sir Ian Wood told his audience at the Cafe Society about the challenge of change and how to deal with it.
He gave advice on international development and spoke about the fundamental importance of people and having a devolved and empowered `A` team.
The business leader also said people should not hide from mistakes but learn from them.
We-Entrepreneurs is said to be a new concept in networking for ambitious entrepreneurs, helping the owners of progressive companies build their network of contacts, find new inspiration and discover ways to drive their business forward.
We-Entrepreneurs says it has a winning formula - regular meetings, no membership fee, no hard sell, cocktails on arrival, informal dinner followed by a speaker.
Richard O`Connor, founder of We-Entrepreneurs, said: "For many, `networking` has become discredited. Additionally entrepreneurialism as a profession is viewed with a certain amount suspicion. We-Entrepreneurs dispels the myths and sets its own agenda for doing business. It is a relevant and practical resource for entrepreneurs. It works. And importantly - we all have fun."
We-Entrepreneurs already has groups in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London and Copenhagen.
Judith Thorpe, director of Thorpe Molloy Recruitment was instrumental in bringing We-Entrepreneurs to Aberdeen.
She said: "Aberdeen already has a vibrant networking community but We-Entrepreneurs is genuinely offering something different - an opportunity to learn from others. And it is this notion that has sparked the interest of the local business community."
