The Engineering division of Aberdeen-based Thorpe Molloy Recruitment, the Scottish Small/Medium Recruitment Agency of the Year, continues to expand as a result of the company’s dedication to customer service and excellence.
The Engineering division, which is led by Business Consultant Simon Chinn, focuses predominantly on onshore and office based permanent and contract positions such as project, reservoir, design, subsea and drilling engineers.
At the beginning of the year, Deborah Reid, Recruitment Consultant, joined Simon, bringing a new dimension of experience in human resources, recruitment and employment law, having worked in-house for oil and gas operators, oil service companies and the Royal Air Force. Most recently, Rebecca Cooke joins the team taking on the role of Recruitment Assistant, supporting both Simon and Deborah.
Simon says, “The Engineering division was established in June 2008 to meet a demand from existing clients. Since its inception, the division has rapidly built an extensive client base, it is, in fact, the fastest growing division at Thorpe Molloy.”
In keeping with Thorpe Molloy’s forward thinking business approach, the division has adopted an innovative and flexible approach to the services it offers. This is highlighted by a recently launched service which has led to significant improvements in the matching process of candidates and clients in a highly competitive recruitment market.
In a drive to offer clients searching for temporary staff the highest calibre candidates, the Engineering division has forged mutually beneficial links with engineering consultancies, drawing on their talent pool to provide clients with access to the best people for particular temporary contract roles.
Simon continues, “We spotted a gap in the market and decided this was an area we could really improve for our clients. Every recruitment agency will find that on occasion they don’t have exactly the right person for a temporary contract. By building these relationships within this very specialist sector we have access to a wider range of skilled people and can fill temporary positions quicker.
“The service, which is basically a secondment, works well for the engineering companies too as it introduces an element of flexibility into their own resourcing, between one scope of work completing and the commencement of a new project.”
Reflecting his success in developing the Engineering division, Simon who has 5 years recruitment experience at Thorpe Molloy, was promoted to Business Consultant in May. And, as a result of continued business growth and a dedicated focus on employee development, Thorpe Molloy recently promoted Drew Alexander and Brett Solomon to Business Managers. Drew, who joined Thorpe Molloy in 2004 heads up the Finance (Permanent) division, and Brett, who has also been with the business for 5 years, leads the Office Personnel division. Furthermore, Team Leader for Finance (Temporary) division, Suzanne Ross, has been promoted to Business Consultant and Ian Orme has been promoted to Senior Consultant in the Office Personnel division.
Thorpe Molloy’s position in the highly competitive recruitment market is further strengthened through the achievement of recent accolades including being named the Small / Medium Recruitment Agency of the Year in the prestigious Scottish Recruitment Awards and reaching the finals of the upcoming Northern Star Business Awards.
