Thorpe Molloy Recruitment appoints
Managing Director

Aberdeen based recruitment consultancy, Thorpe Molloy Recruitment, is delighted to announce the appointment of Amanda McCulloch as Managing Director.

Anti-clockwise from top – Amanda McCulloch, Managing Director; Judith Thorpe, Director and Karen Molloy, Director.

Amanda will be responsible for the overall management of the award winning agency, working alongside the founder members and directors of the company, Judith Thorpe and Karen Molloy.

Thirty-three year old Amanda has been with Thorpe Molloy since 1999 when she joined as a trainee recruitment consultant from Stirling University where she graduated in English. Since then she has earned fast-track progression up the management ladder. Prior to her promotion, her responsibilities as Associate Director included managing the company’s commercial operations and recruitment teams, as well as handling strategic business development.

Amanda’s commercial success has been key to the company’s significant growth, increasing turnover over the last five years by 88 per cent to £7.1 million. Her award winning achievements include being named Rising Star in the prestigious Northern Star Awards in 2004 and finalist this year in the Business Woman of the Year category.

Commenting on her promotion, co-founder Judith Thorpe says,
“Amanda joined Thorpe Molloy eleven years ago as a graduate and her talent and natural ability shone through from those early days.  She has worked with flair through the ranks of Thorpe Molloy, always challenging Karen and myself in order to achieve the best results for the business.  Her recent appointment as Managing Director is the culmination of her focus, entrepreneurialism and application which has been instrumental to the Thorpe Molloy success story.”

Amanda has been acting Managing Director for the past 2 years and therefore this is more of a formality than a radical change to the way we currently operate, however, it does send a strong message to the business community, and to our team internally, that she is being formally recognised and included in decision making at board level.”

Speaking of her appointment, Amanda says,
“I’m naturally very pleased to have been made Managing Director of a business which has nurtured and challenged me. We’ve gone through a tremendous period of growth and success, and we don’t take that for granted. The recruitment market is incredibly competitive, and we know there is no place for complacency.  Enhancing our business practices and customer service levels are a priority for me and my operations team, as well as focusing on the longer term goals for the business.”

In addition to the role of Managing Director, Amanda remains focused on driving forward Thorpe Molloy’s Executive division, which specialises in senior level, six figure assignments.

Amanda says “Executive is a particular growth area for Thorpe Molloy. We need to raise awareness in the business community that it is not necessary for Aberdeen firms to use central-belt or London head-hunting agencies to fill their board level positions when Thorpe Molloy has access to the wealth of talent in the north east, can search on a national basis and does not charge punitive retainer fees.”

Amanda’s new appointment marks what has been a significant year for the company. In March, Thorpe Molloy relocated to prestigious new headquarters in the west end of Aberdeen. The refurbishment investment in the impressive premises, almost 2.5 times larger than the previous office at Queen’s Terrace, signifies Thorpe Molloy’s commitment to Aberdeen and its long term growth plans in the coming years.

Despite the difficult economic downturn and whilst others in the sector have been forced to make redundancies, Thorpe Molloy bucked the trend in 2009 by investing in support staff and new recruitment consultants, participating in Offshore Europe and launching its successful Star Temporary Worker award. Furthermore, the business’s reputation as a quality recruitment consultancy was strengthened when it scooped the Small/Medium Recruitment Agency of the Year award at the prestigious Scottish Recruitment Awards.
