Currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer on a permanent staff basis for an Oil & Gas company based in Aberdeen.

Reporting to the Engineering Supervisor, the Design Engineer will work within a multi-discipline Technical Team to design, qualify and commercialise a range downhole completion technologies.  The Design Engineer will use their expertise to develop and adapt the existing portfolio of products and assist in the creation of new concepts to meet customer requirements.  The Design Engineer will be required to assist in the preparation of detail and assembly drawings, as the business requires, and under supervision, assist in the scheduling of Draughtsperson resources, as well as mentor less experienced colleagues.

The Design Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Providing innovative and unique solutions to technical challenges.
  • Completing feasibility studies on conceptual solutions.
  • Creating detailed manufacture / assembly drawings and performance calculation packages.
  • Controlling Product Data Maintenance (PDM) information.
  • Preparing design packages for performance of design review.
  • Preparing test procedures and reports and providing assistance to workshop personnel as required.
  • Providing support to other areas of the business in relation to technical matters.
  • Liaising with clients as required for any specific project requirements.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A Degree qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar Mechanical Design Engineer type role, working with downhole tools, is essential.
  • Experience in the design and testing of downhole completion products is essential.
  • Knowledge of downhole hydraulics is essential.
  • Experience with 3D modelling software is essential (Solidworks preferred).
  • Previous experience of working in an operator driven R&D environment, within the Oil & Gas Industry, would be preferred.
  • Knowledge of parametric modelling techniques would be preferred.
  • Applicants will be expected to be familiar with current draughting standards.
