Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

• Interpreting client needs and creating functional design specifications.
• Liaising with drawing office and clearly communicating design concepts.
• Creating design calculations packages to validate designs.
• Checking / approving engineering calculation packages.
• Conducting Finite Element Analysis studies using Autodesk Inventor.
• Conducting structural analysis using STAAD.Pro.
• Leading design reviews and recording design changes.
• Supporting the Sales Department in technical proposals and client meetings when requested.
• Ensuring equipment designs fulfil company and customer specifications.
• Providing technical support to workshop and offshore personnel.
• Be part of the on-call rota for out of hours technical support for offshore personnel.
• Under the guidance of the Project Engineer, prioritising assigned tasks and ensuring on time delivery.
• Attending project meetings and providing technical input for the mechanical discipline.
• Ensuring that assigned project deliverables are delivered on time as per the project plan.
• Providing regular and timely reports to the Project Engineer.
• Raising requisitions for required materials / services through C-SAM.
• Providing technical support at client FAT equipment testing, as required.

Experience / Qualifications:

• A Degree qualification in a relevant Mechanical Engineering discipline is essential.
• Chartered Engineer status would be preferred.
• Previous experience in a similar Mechanical Design Engineer type role, within the Oil & Gas industry, is essential.
• Experience in the design of any of the following product lines is essential: drum winches, linear winches, HPUs, tensioners and reel drive systems.
• Experience of designing to DNV 2.22, DNV 2.7-3 and DNV 2.7-1 standards is essential.
• Experience of creating mechanical design calculation packages is essential.
• Experience of performing mechanical stress calculations is essential.
• Experience with using MathCAD is essential.
• Experience with using Autodesk Inventor, or similar, is essential.
• Experience with using AutoCAD is essential.
• Experience with using FEA (Autodesk Inventor or similar) is essential.
• Experience with using STAAD.Pro would be preferred.
• Experience of selecting bearings, shafts, gears, etc is essential.
• Experience with writing technical specifications, such as FATs and OMMs, is essential.
• Heavy machinery design experience would be preferred.
• Knowledge of rotating equipment design would be preferred.
• Previous offshore experience and current valid / offshore certification would be preferred.
