Currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer on a permanent staff basis for a large Oil and Gas company based in Aberdeenshire.

The Electrical Design Engineer will work within a group that is responsible delivering a range of leading and innovative electrical engineering designs and solutions for wireline systems, wellhead pressure control equipment and machinery.  The Electrical Design Engineer will produce these solutions for hydraulic, pneumatic or electro-mechanical system designs using advanced CAD tools.

The Electrical Design Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Carrying out electrical engineering design, analysis, testing and validation as required.
  • Planning and leading design projects as allocated by the Lead Engineer.
  • Preparing cost estimates and ensuring all designs assigned are completed within budget.
  • Ensuring designs produced are efficient and cost effective, seeking to reuse existing designs and components wherever practical.
  • Preparing and checking associated engineering documents in accordance with engineering group policy, (such as drawings, technical illustrations, manuals, reports and calculations).
  • Participating in sales contract reviews and internal design review meetings, being aware of commercial implications.
  • Attending and participating in client meetings, always ensuring customer care is the foremost priority.
  • Ensuring all assigned deliverables are technically in accordance with client requirements and established contract requirements.
  • Developing and taking part in test programmes and factory acceptance tests to validate designs.
  • Ensuring Engineering Change procedures are implemented thoroughly, helping always minimise disruption to the business.
  • Contributing to the investigation, resolution and documentation of Engineering queries, including through Engineering Support functions, in a timely and technically acceptable fashion.
  • Supporting other departments and business units both locally and globally, and carrying out other duties as and when business requirements dictate, as may be reasonably expected by Line Manager.
  • Travel required as dictated by project needs (worldwide travel) for client meetings, and to provide site installation, commissioning and testing support, or any other related activity as required.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • A Degree qualification in a relevant Electrical Engineering discipline is essential. A pass at class 2:1, or above, would be preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar Electrical Design Engineer position, within the Oil and Gas industry, is essential.
  • Experience of leading electrical design projects, within multi-disciplinary teams, is essential.
  • Design and troubleshooting experience with electro-mechanical systems is essential.
  • Experience of working within a manufacturing environment, within the Oil and Gas industry, is essential.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical is essential.
  • Working knowledge of wireline intervention and completion methods, wireline winches and masts would be preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and PLM / PDM data systems would be preferred.
  • Applicants will be expected to possess experience with the following design codes: IEC Standards, EU Directives and CE Marking, ATEX and Norsok.
