Currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Development Engineer on a permanent staff basis for an Oil and Gas client based in Glasgow.

The Mechanical Development Engineer will join a multi-disciplined team of Polymer, Mechanical and Chemical Engineers within the company’s Technical Development Group. 

The Mechanical Development Engineer will be responsible for the provision of technical advice, guidance and expertise on polymer materials and pipes to the various business units within the company. 

This is an exciting and varied role as the successful candidate will work across all areas of the business from R&D, through to business development, tenders and project execution. 

The Mechanical Development Engineer will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

Business Development Support:

  • Providing technical support to the company’s Business Development function on a ‘call off’ or on an ‘as required’ basis.
  • Enquiries or requests for clarifications received from the marketplace shall be forwarded to the Mechanical Development Engineer for review and consideration in the preparation of a response back to existing or potential clients.
  • May also be required to develop, publish and present technical papers or participate in client facing presentations to support the company’s efforts to promote its services and secure new projects.

Project Support:

The Mechanical Development Engineer will provide a continuous support to projects as follows:

  • Contract review.
  • Liner design report.
  • Procurement support.
  • Pre-qualification testing.
  • Site engineering support.
  • Liner pull-in and reversion management.
  • Liner termination and connectors.
  • Software inputs.

Research and Development Projects:

  • The Mechanical Development Engineer may be assigned responsibility for in-house R&D projects or in some instances for a project sponsored by a third party organisation.
  • In certain circumstances, the work may not substantiate being assigned a dedicated Project Manager. When this is the case, the Mechanical Development Engineer will take overall responsibility for the execution of the project scope including budget and schedule management, risk management and reporting.

Education / Experience / Skills:

  • A Mechanical Engineering based Degree qualification is essential.
  • A Master’s Degree qualification would be desirable.
  • A Polymer Materials / Engineering / Science or equivalent Polymer based qualification would be highly desirable.
  • Chartered Engineering status would be preferred.
  • Previous engineering work based experience is essential.
  • Previous experience in a similar Mechanical Development Engineer type role within the Oil and Gas Industry would be preferred, however, the client is open receiving applications from candidates who have relevant experience in other industries.
  • Previous experience of managing small to medium R&D and operational projects is essential.
  • Previous experience of polymer product design and / or manufacture is desirable.
  • Previous experience of polymer pipe design and / or manufacture is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of polymer materials is desirable.
  • Possessing an understanding of the corrosion process in metallic materials would be desirable.
  • Applicants will be expected to have experience with MS Project, CAD packages (Solidworks, AutoCad, etc.) and Finite Element Analysis packages (Ansys, Abaqus, etc.).
  • The client would prefer applications from candidates who currently reside within a realistic commutable distance of the Glasgow area.
