Currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer (Hydraulics) on a permanent staff basis for an oil and gas client based in Glasgow.

The Mechanical Design Engineer (Hydraulics) will have the following main duties and responsibilities:

  • Designing hydraulic control systems and their associated packages, specifying all necessary equipment and components and assisting in the creation of quotations and compilation of appropriate bills of material.
  • Ensuring on time delivery of design packs that provide safe, economic, engineered solutions, in accordance with processes and procedures and in compliance with all relevant codes and / or standards.
  • Striving for ‘right first time’ design and build completion and the support of a ‘zero defects’ mentality to both safety and quality.
  • Producing economic ‘fit for purpose’ engineered solutions, considering all aspects from the user to manufacturability.
  • Liaising with clients to establish and confirm precise engineering requirements.
  • Technically managing projects and product introduction to ensure the best chance of successful on time and on budget completion.
  • Establishing and managing technical design reviews for associated products.
  • Actively participating in project planning, both prior to client submission and through the delivery phase of a project.
  • Participating in project design reviews.

  • Ensuring the development and improvement of existing products and services, where possible.
  • Actively pursuing the development of new product ranges from conceptual design to manufacture.
  • Liaising with suppliers on technical and engineering matters.
  • Ensuring activities within the Engineering Team meet agreed target completion dates.

Education / Qualifications:

  • A Degree qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline is essential.
  • Chartered Engineering status, or working towards chartership, would be desirable.

Experience / Skills:

Essential:

  • Hydraulic power and control system design experience with the ability to carry out fluid flow hand calculations.
  • Previous mechanical design engineering experience.
  • Experience with component selection.
  • Experience with the design and drawing of hydraulic schematics.
  • Experience of producing P&ID’s and fabrication drawings.
  • 2D and 3D CAD experience (Autodesk preferred).

Desirable:

  • Previous and specific design engineering experience within the oil and gas industry.
  • Design experience with offshore hydraulic control equipment.
  • Hands-on workshop experience.
  • Electrical control systems experience.
  • Control panel design experience.
  • Flow assurance experience.
  • MathCAD experience.
  • FAT and commissioning experience.
  • Knowledge of DNV, ATEX, PED, CE Marking and machinery directive.
  • Knowledge of welding processes and standards.
