Accounts Assistant - VR/31919

Status: Permanent
Location: Aberdeen, AB10
Rate: Available Upon Request

Due to continued growth, an opportunity has arisen for an Accounts Assistant to join a small but growing accountancy practice on a full-time basis.

Working within a close-knit team, this role will suit someone who is confident, self-motivated and enjoys dealing with people. You’ll be comfortable solving problems quickly and providing reliable support across the practice, contributing to a positive and collaborative working environment.

As part of a deadline-driven business, strong organisation and time management skills are essential. You’ll need to plan your workload effectively, remain mindful of upcoming tax deadlines and adapt priorities accordingly.

The Accounts Assistant will play a key role in overseeing the new client administration process, gaining exposure to a wide variety of clients and understanding which services are appropriate for each. You’ll also provide day-to-day support across payroll, VAT and accounts, handle client meetings and telephone calls with confidence, and work both independently and as part of a small, closely aligned team.

Full training will be provided; however, the ideal candidate will have around two years’ experience within practice or a similar role and be keen to continue developing their technical knowledge.

Key skills and experience include:

  • Knowledge of UK taxes.
  • Experience using cloud accounting software such as Xero and FreeAgent.
  • Familiarity with professional accounting software.
  • New client administration, including registrations for taxes and services.
  • Payroll administration and preparation.
  • Preparation and filing of VAT returns.
  • Preparation and filing of accounts.
  • Preparation and filing of corporation tax returns (CT600).
  • Company formations.
  • Confidence in client-facing meetings (preferred).
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Part-qualified or studying towards a professional qualification (preferred).

Personal attributes:

  • A proactive, can-do attitude.
  • Strong team player with excellent customer service skills.
  • Clear and confident written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to work to deadlines and perform well under pressure.

This role offers the chance to gain broad exposure within practice, develop technical and client-facing skills, and grow alongside a business that values collaboration and progression.
