A leading provider of waste management and recycling services is seeking an experienced Waste and Recycling Operations Manager to oversee the daily operations at its flagship facility near Aberdeen. The site is a state-of-the-art decommissioning and metal recycling yard, capable of processing over 130,000 tonnes of waste material annually, with a strong commitment to sustainability and regulatory compliance.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines operational management with environmental compliance, health and safety oversight, and team leadership.

Main duties and responsibilities:

• Managing the day-to-day operations of on-site material processing, recovery, and final disposal activities.
• Ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of all site-based operational staff.
• Overseeing health and safety compliance for all third-party visitors to site.
• Maintaining full compliance with the site’s environmental permit and all applicable environmental legislation.
• Ensuring operational adherence to current legislation, best practices, and company procedures.
• Supporting the identification and handling of materials in line with the site’s regulatory licence.
• Actively contributing to the site’s Senior Management Team and decision-making processes.
• Liaising with relevant internal departments and external regulators where required.

Applicants to this role require:

• WAMITAB Certificate of Technical Competence (COTC) with current continued competency certification.
• Strong operational management experience within the waste, recycling, or decommissioning sectors.
• In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations and health and safety standards.
• Experience working in regulated environments involving the inspection and classification of waste materials.
• Strong leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
• A practical, solutions-focused approach with the ability to work both on-site and in an office setting.

Desirable Experience:

• Previous experience in managing recycling operations related to industrial decommissioning.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance under UK environmental authorities (e.g. SEPA or EA).
• Track record of delivering process improvements and maintaining high compliance standards.
